DESMO-J in a Nutshell

Not (yet) available...

Compared to other simulation software DESMO-J might seem to lack certain features. That's because DESMO-J is not a fully-fledged simulation environment like many commercial tools but a flexible simulation package on top of a standard programming language. As yet, DESMO-J's strengths lie in supporting the construction and execution of discrete-event simulation models in the form of Java programs. DESMO-J comes with a simple graphical user interface (GUI) which aids the user in running experiments. This GUI integrates some basic visualisations like plotting model values as time series. Also, means of 3D visulation are provided based on Java3D.

However, DESMO-J does not offer:

  1. graphical model construction by drag and drop. Building a model with DESMO-J still means writing Java code instead of assembling some off-the-shelf components on a canvas.
  2. support for validating models or statistically analysing experiment results. Nevertheless, DESMO-J provides detailed report, debug and trace file output that can be used as input for spreadsheets or other statistics tools.
